Death of people near a closed shelter in Kyiv: the guard who did not open the door was sentenced to four years in prison

A court in Kyiv sentenced a hospital security guard in the Desnyanskyi district to four years in prison for not opening the shelter door during a Russian shelling on June 1, 2023.

At that time, it should be recalled, three people died, including a 9-year-old girl.

The man was found guilty of “knowingly leaving people without assistance in a life-threatening situation and depriving them of the opportunity to take self-preservation measures due to their helpless state, despite having the ability to help them.”

“The accused did not admit his guilt and did not repent for the criminal offense,” the statement said.

It should be noted that during that shelling, the hospital shelter in the Darnytskyi district was closed. According to eyewitnesses, it was simply “not opened at all.”
