22.12.2023 - 21:29Ukrainian refugees currently living in Denmark will have to return to Ukraine after the war concludes.
This statement was made by the Minister for Immigration and Integration of Denmark, Kaare Dybvad, as reported by Berlingske.
The minister noted that Denmark considers the stay of Ukrainian refugees in the country as temporary, despite Ukrainians being “culturally closer to us than people from the Middle East.”
Specifically, Kaare Dybvad highlighted that the Ukrainian authorities have emphasized their desire to have everyone who left due to the war return home, and Copenhagen “must respect this.”
As of December 1, there were 30,278 registered Ukrainians in Denmark. A special law is in effect in the country until March 2025, guaranteeing Ukrainians residence permits and access to the labor market outside the general asylum rules.
It’s worth noting that half of the Ukrainian refugees (49.5%) wish to remain in Denmark even after the end of hostilities. Many of them have already established a new life in the country and have “put down roots in society.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has begun considering the introduction of dual citizenship for Ukrainian refugees.
