Mass layoffs and paid lessons: Ukrainian schools are facing a growing shortage of teachers
01.09.2024 10:41During Ukraine’s offensive in the Kursk region, Russia managed to capture more settlements in the Donetsk region.
This information was reported by the German newspaper Bild.
“While the Ukrainian army was only able to take control of one small Russian town, Sudzha (with a population of 6,000), the Russian army captured five Ukrainian settlements with a total population of over 53,000 people in August alone, including Novogrodovka, Krasnohorivka, Druzhba, Severne, and New York,” the article states.
“Ukraine is paying a high price in the Donbas for its successes in Kursk. The pressure on Pokrovsk and its evacuation raises questions about the Ukrainian leadership’s strategy,” said military expert Nico Lange.
Lange sees a direct connection between the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in Russia and the increasingly threatening situation in the Donbas.
“Kyiv has thinned out its best units in the east of the country to make progress in western Russia. Understaffed units in the Donbas cannot withstand the Russians, leading to internal debates and unrest,” Lange said.
The publication also presents other viewpoints, suggesting that the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region demonstrated to the West the fragility of Russia’s “red lines,” making it a success from that perspective. However, Bild notes that the West has not responded as Kyiv had hoped.
“Berlin, Paris, London, and Washington have not reconsidered their restrictions on the use of supplied weapons against Russian airfields and other strategic targets in Russia,” the newspaper reminds.
