03.04.2025 08:30European countries are exploring the possibility of using NATO resources to deploy a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.
The discussions involve leveraging NATO’s command-and-control structures, as well as shared intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities—in particular, E-3 AWACS early warning and surveillance aircraft.
This idea is also being considered as a way to indirectly involve the United States in the initiative and secure Washington’s tacit support, given that U.S. military capabilities in Europe are an integral part of any NATO operation.
“If we’re going to deploy assets from dozens of countries [in Ukraine], then NATO is the only viable command-and-control option,” said one official.
“Politicians and diplomats don’t really understand what it means to run something like this. You need military people involved from the very beginning,” another official added.
The next meeting of the “coalition of the willing” on Ukraine is scheduled to take place at NATO headquarters on April 10.
Previously, Western media reported that there’s growing talk about deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine’s maritime and airspace zones.
