Number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in the EU rises in June 2026
14.08.2026 06:31According to Eurostat, in June Poland was the only major host country in the European Union to record a significant decrease in the number of Ukrainian refugees: minus 6,335 people, or minus 0.7%.
A slight decline in the number of Ukrainians was also recorded in two other EU countries — Belgium (minus 35 people, or minus 0.04%) and Ireland (minus 15 people, or minus 0.01%). In all other EU member states, the number of Ukrainian refugees continues to grow.
Among the leaders in growth are Italy (plus 4,115 people, or plus 8.8%), the Czech Republic (plus 3,835 people, or plus 1.0%), and Germany (plus 2,960 people, or plus 0.2%).
Despite the recorded decline, Poland remains one of the key hubs for Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
The outlet previously reported that more than half of surveyed Ukrainian refugees in Poland expressed a desire to obtain Polish citizenship, while another 3.5% already hold it.
As of May, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection status had grown in 22 out of 26 EU countries.
