December 18, 2023Western F-16 fighters are unlikely to assist Ukraine in countering Russian ballistic missiles.
This information said Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat.
“Ballistic missiles are ground installations that can launch a missile from any point. The F-16 cannot engage against them. It can destroy aerodynamic targets and also operate against ground and surface targets,” Ignat explained.
Earlier, Yuriy Ignat had stated that F-16 fighters could significantly change the course of the war.
“Aircraft will change the course of the war and change it very seriously. The issue is not to have these aircraft with tactical and technical characteristics significantly weaker than the Russian ones. We need modern aircraft that can gain an advantage in the sky,” Ignat said.
According to the Air Force representative, Ukraine needs around 128 fighters to gain an advantage in the sky.
“It is clear that war can bring its own adjustments, but more than 100 aircraft are indeed needed to disperse them at different airfields, to respond to various challenges, and to strike at different targets, both against aircraft, ground targets, and enemy rear positions, in particular,” the spokesman said.
