December 18, 2024Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico urged that gas pipelines should not be allowed to dry up.
According to him, after the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine expires, Europe must find a way to continue the supply of this energy resource.
“Are we just going to let this pipeline dry up?” he asked. “For what reason? Because you don’t like the Russians? Fine, I like them.”
He also emphasized that continuing gas supplies is important for Ukraine, which is interested in maintaining transit routes.
Earlier, it was reported that in August of this year, Slovakia became the leading European importer of Russian goods for the first time in history, followed by Italy and Hungary in second and third places, respectively.
In mid-October, Fico reminded Ukraine that it must transport gas through its territory for a European Union member state. He highlighted that the Association Agreement with the EU imposes corresponding obligations on Kyiv.
