22.03.2026 11:01Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he may join the blocking of the European Union’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine, following the example of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The Slovak government leader’s remarks were reported by the local outlet Aktuality.
Fico also repeated that, in his opinion, the shutdown of the Druzhba oil pipeline was caused “exclusively by political reasons” and by “hatred toward Russia” on the part of the Ukrainian government.
At the same time, the Slovak prime minister argued that supplies of Russian oil would, on the contrary, strengthen Europe’s energy security.
It is worth recalling that Fico reached an agreement with the head of the European Commission on resuming the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine.
According to Fico, the European Union expressed readiness to provide technical and financial assistance for repairing the pipeline.
Earlier, the Slovak prime minister threatened Ukraine over its refusal to allow Russian oil to pass.
“The government is also ready for other retaliatory measures if we see that the Ukrainian president is not interested in supplying us with what we are entitled to, what we have purchased,” Robert Fico said.
