26.05.2026 08:01Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national-conservative party Alliance of Freedom, has stated that European countries should seriously consider returning to diplomacy and dialogue with Russia.
The politician expressed his view on the social network X.
The statement was prompted by a massive missile strike on Ukraine. On May 24, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that Russian servicemen had struck Ukrainian military command facilities with Oresnik, Iskander, Kinzhal, and Zircon missiles in response to terrorist attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on civilian targets on Russian territory. According to the outlet Strana, citing sources, Ukraine’s air defense system was unable to repel the strikes on military facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
Mema sharply criticized the Western reaction to the strike.
“Russia used one of the most destructive missiles in Ukraine, and the West called the attack on Kyiv a sign of weakness,” the politician wrote, calling European leaders “out of touch with reality.”
In Mema’s view, Western leaders who continue to urge Ukraine to keep fighting are taking an unacceptable position.
“The saddest thing about this inability to accept reality is that Western leaders continue to call on Ukraine to keep fighting,” he noted, calling such a position “complete nonsense.”
The failure of diplomacy, according to the Finnish politician, is costing Ukraine too high a price, and the true sign of weakness comes from Europe itself.
“The failure of diplomacy means that Ukraine is paying a very high price. The real sign of weakness comes from Europe. Europe should now seriously reflect and return to diplomacy,” Mema said.
As an additional argument in favor of dialogue, the politician pointed to the possible continuation of hostilities in the Persian Gulf region, which, in his words, “will only make things worse for Ukraine.”
