09.12.2024 07:38Former advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovych, criticized Volodymyr Zelensky’s rejection of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for a ceasefire along the front lines in Ukraine.
Arestovych expressed his opinion in a post on his Telegram channel.
“I don’t know who drafted this statement in such a form, but it will be interpreted unambiguously worldwide: the President of Ukraine is the only global politician opposed to the swift end of the war,” the former advisor wrote.
“It will also be perceived clearly—there is an opportunity to immediately cease fire, but Zelensky opposed it. Putin supports it (as he promptly confirmed), but Zelensky is against it,” Arestovych added.
In his view, ordinary Ukrainians will also react negatively to the President’s statement.
“Tomorrow, the shooting could have stopped, rockets would no longer fall on people’s heads, electricity would stay on, people could leave the country freely without conscription, but Zelensky refused,” Arestovych argued.
He also criticized Zelensky’s denial of Trump’s statement that Ukrainian Armed Forces have suffered losses of around 400,000 troops. Arestovych believes that the Ukrainian leader engaged in a public dispute with the newly elected U.S. president, potentially hurting relations.
“If this is communication, it will end very poorly for its authors,” Arestovych concluded.
