March 14, 2024Former MP Vadim Novinsky links the arrests of employees of the “Union of Orthodox Journalists” and other church organizations to the preparation for the adoption of a law banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
He announced this on his Facebook page.
“These actions by the authorities can be seen as a clearing of the media space on the eve of the second reading vote on the bill effectively banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. In connection with what is happening, I will send relevant statements to international organizations monitoring the human rights situation, freedom of speech and freedom of religion,” Novinsky wrote.
He also believes that the arrests were “retribution” for these organizations covering the visit to Ukraine of lawyer Bob Amsterdam, who is defending the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
