The promised $50 billion loan to Ukraine is in jeopardy due to disagreements among allies – Politico
October 16, 2024France will not fulfill its promise to provide Ukraine with €3 billion in aid in 2024, according to French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu.
This information reported by “Politico”.
“At the beginning of 2024, there was a political decision that this aid could reach €3 billion. In reality, it will amount to over €2 billion, but not €3 billion,” Lecornu said.
The decision to allocate up to €3 billion in aid to Ukraine in 2024 was part of a bilateral security agreement between Kyiv and Paris, signed by Volodymyr Zelensky and Emmanuel Macron in February. However, as *Politico* notes, France was forced to reduce its aid due to budget constraints, with the country’s budget deficit projected to reach about 6% of GDP in 2024.
The French defense minister also stated that no additional requests for aid to Ukraine would be made to the parliament by the end of the year.
Earlier, media reports indicated that the Czech Republic spent five times more on purchasing Russian oil and gas than on aiding Ukraine. Additionally, it was recently revealed that Germany would no longer be sending heavy military equipment to Ukraine.
