December 23, 2024A sociological survey conducted in the United States revealed that half of Americans favor ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The results were published by Gallup, the company that conducted the study.
According to the survey, 50% of respondents said that efforts should focus on achieving a ceasefire as soon as possible, even if that means Ukraine does not regain all its territories. In the summer of 2022, only 31% held this view. Meanwhile, 48% of Americans supported continuing to help Ukraine reclaim its territories, down from 66% two years ago.
“This marks a shift from previous studies, where the majority of Americans supported fighting until Ukraine achieved full victory,” Gallup stated in its publication.
The largest group of respondents—37%—believed the U.S. is giving Ukraine “too much” support. Those who felt the current level of aid is sufficient or too little accounted for 31% and 30%, respectively.
The survey also showed that supporters of a quick end to the war are more prevalent among Republicans.
Additionally, 68% of U.S. adults believe that neither Moscow nor Kyiv is currently winning the armed conflict.
Earlier, a survey by the Reagan Institute found that 59% of Americans favored Ukraine engaging in negotiations with Russia, even if it meant Kyiv conceding some of its territories.
Meanwhile, the new NATO Secretary General suggested that Ukraine postpone any peace talks with Russia.
