November 8, 2023Language and corruption: the European Commission’s requirements for Ukraine to start accession negotiations with the EU have been revealed
November 8, 2023The United States is not insisting on the necessity of holding elections in Ukraine next year.
This information reported according to Deputy State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel.
“As far as I understand, not holding elections in 2024 is in line with their constitution, so we will simply leave it to the discretion of the Ukrainians to share their views on this matter. We have also made it clear to our Ukrainian partners our commitment to supporting Ukraine not only in its struggle but also in our commitment to supporting a careful and constitutional approach to preserving a strong democracy during wartime,” – he stated.
He pointed out that nearly 20% of Ukraine’s territory is occupied, millions of citizens have been forced to leave their homes, many are abroad, and Russia continues to bomb civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine on a daily basis.
Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky stated that it is not the right time for elections in Ukraine.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) stated that Zelensky would continue to perform the duties of the president even after his term expires. According to the current legislation in Ukraine, elections are not held during wartime or under a state of emergency.
