‘Shortage of everything’: Germany acknowledged the dismal state of the Bundeswehr

The combat readiness of the German army is being called into question.

This is reported by the Financial Times, citing the words of the German parliament’s commissioner, Eva Högl.

According to her, the Bundeswehr is experiencing a shortage of military equipment, supplies, and personnel. The situation regarding personnel is no less catastrophic.

“Unfortunately, the Bundeswehr lacks almost everything. There is a shortage of ammunition, spare parts, rations, tanks, ships, and aircraft. As for the personnel issue, I have nothing new and positive to report,” the official stated.

Högl noted that as of the end of 2023, the country’s armed forces only count 181 thousand military personnel, with 20 thousand vacancies remaining unfilled.
