December 28, 2023After a provision was added to the mobilization bill stating that Ukrainians abroad won’t be able to exchange their biometric passports without a military service certificate, videos of queues for document processing have emerged in Polish cities like Warsaw and Krakow, as well as in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.
Footage depicting large groups of Ukrainian refugees waiting in lines to obtain biometric passports is being circulated on Telegram channels.
“In Bratislava, people are getting biometric passports. Laws in Ukraine are changing every night; you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. That’s the situation,” commented a man in one of the videos, peppering his remarks with expletives.
Under the new bill, Ukrainians residing abroad who have not registered for military service won’t be issued biometric passports, and their banking operations will be restricted.
