October 21, 2023If the US Congress allocates $61.4 billion for Ukraine, it still won’t be enough for direct support to the Ukrainian budget next year.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak in his Telegram channel.
“Direct budgetary support is earmarked at $11.8 billion, and we are currently preparing the 2024 budget, which requires $42.9 billion, with 30% of that ($12.87 billion) expected to come from the US. So, based on this request (assuming it covers 13 months), we will be short by two billion dollars,” Zheleznyak wrote.
He suggests that this deficit could be covered by other partners of Ukraine, but there are no confirmed guarantees from them as of now.
Earlier, the US President submitted a request to Congress for financing Ukraine. These funds have not yet been approved by the parliament.
