In Kharkiv, a man legally changed his sex to female so he wouldn’t be mobilized

A man from Kharkiv changed his legal gender to female in order to avoid mobilization.

This information is recorded in Ukraine’s Unified State Register of Court Decisions.

The local Migration Service issued the resident a new passport in which the “sex” field officially stated “Female.” After that, the newly registered woman applied to the territorial recruitment center (TCC) requesting to be removed from the military register. The TCC refused, saying that without a decision from a military medical commission she still remained a man liable for military service.

The transgender woman filed a lawsuit, and a Kharkiv court found the TCC’s refusal unlawful. The court ordered the plaintiff to be removed from the military register and from the “Oberih” registry, since under Ukrainian law women serve only on a voluntary basis.

Earlier this month, footage appeared showing a man being forcibly taken for mobilization in Kharkiv together with a woman.
