August 28, 2023New historical record: Ukraine’s national debt increased by $4 billion in July to reach $132.92 billion
August 28, 2023The Ukrainian authorities are considering the possibility of holding parliamentary and presidential elections in 2024 in order to halt the decline in the popularity of Volodymyr Zelensky and to obtain a popular mandate ahead of potential negotiations with Russia.
This is reported by the Spanish newspaper El Pais, citing sources.
The publication notes that just three months ago, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it is impossible to hold elections during wartime – as stated in the Constitution of Ukraine and in the current law on martial law.
“But politics is also the art of change, and now the inner circle of the Ukrainian president is advocating for the start of the pre-election race in 2024 to elect the Ukrainian parliament and president. Sources consulted by El Pais explain Zelensky’s new position as an attempt to halt the loss of popularity and maintain legitimacy in the face of potential negotiations with Russia,” the publication states.
