November 11, 2023In the Obukhiv district of the Kyiv region, unknown individuals dumped 50 pig carcasses infected with African swine fever into a field.
Ukrainian journalists learned about this from sources in law enforcement.
“The pig carcasses were found in a field between the villages of Zelenky and Matveevka of the Mironivka community. The pigs were thrown into a pit near the forest plantation. They had no identification numbers or tags. According to experts, the carcasses have been there for more than three weeks. After collecting all biological samples and confirming the presence of the African swine fever virus, the decision was made to burn the carcasses at the discovery site,” the source reported.
He also added that investigators are currently determining who transported the infected pigs to the field. A criminal case has been opened in this regard, and the perpetrators could face up to three years of imprisonment.
Earlier in September, in the village of Staiki in the Kyiv region, an outbreak of African swine fever was recorded. The disease was confirmed in a private farm. To eliminate the disease focus, seven pigs were culled. A 40-day quarantine was established, covering the territory of local hunting grounds, pig farms, and the villages of Veremiy, Zhukovtsi, Tripolye, Khalep’ye, and Vitachov.
