October 29, 2023In the Lviv region, an attack was carried out on the Ukrainian Member of Parliament, Nikolay Tyshchenko.
Ukrainian media reports on this incident, citing sources within law enforcement agencies.
“Yesterday, around 7:00 PM, Nikolay Tyshchenko filed a report with the police. According to the Ukrainian Member of Parliament, the attack took place in the village of Bryukhovychi. An unknown man punched him in the neck and threatened him with physical harm,” said the source.
The source also added that this incident has been registered in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations of Ukraine under the charge of causing minor bodily harm. The man who attacked Tyshchenko could face a sentence of one year of corrective labor.
Later, a representative of the regional branch of the National Police, Svetlana Dobrovolska, also confirmed the attack. She noted that Tyshchenko had filed a report with the police, and a pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Article 125 (intentional minor bodily harm) of the Ukrainian Criminal Code. Currently, law enforcement authorities are working to establish the circumstances of the incident, and no further details have been provided by the police.
A local resident of Bryukhovychi, who requested not to be named, told journalists that the incident with Tyshchenko occurred there. According to the source, the MP had arrived there on October 28th following a request from the local community to “resolve land-related conflicts.”
Tyshchenko himself stated that people from a retirement home had allegedly approached him, seeking protection from a raid and threats to their lives and eviction onto the streets. Reportedly, unidentified armed individuals had illegally seized two hectares of communal land in Bryukhovychi, a suburb of Lviv.
“We fought with this mafia until late at night yesterday. Vasily Zhurbenko, who introduced himself as the head of security against the ‘Ukry’ raiders and an ‘Interpol’ officer, arrived at the crime scene. In his car with fake license plates, numerous cameras and surveillance devices were discovered,” the MP wrote.
Tyshchenko claims that the man behaved aggressively, insulted his aides, provoked the police and everyone present. He also allegedly publicly intimidated women and the employees of the retirement home, as per his statement.
“Furthermore, after this individual assaulted me in the presence of the police, a criminal case has been initiated against him for attacking me while I was performing my parliamentary duties,” the parliamentarian added.
