A man was struck in a courtyard in Kharkiv: forced mobilization of men continues in Ukraine

August 4, 2024In the Odesa region, employees of the territorial recruitment center detained and took a man to the military enlistment office in front of his two children.
As reported by blogger Anna Dimchenko, her relative Yuriy Dimchenko was detained at a checkpoint near Palanka, on the road from Izmail to Odesa.
“They asked him to get out of the car and forcibly took him to the Sarata territorial recruitment center… leaving the minor children on the street. After that, contact with him was lost,” Anna reported.
Later, Yuriy’s sister arrived at the Sarata territorial recruitment center but was denied a meeting with her brother.
“They behaved aggressively, promising to smear her against the wall. She filed a report with the police. The report was accepted, but they couldn’t do anything. Yuriy got in touch the next day at 10 a.m. (August 3), when he was already at a training center in the village of Olhopil in the Vinnytsia region. How’s that for speed? He did not undergo a military medical commission. Rather, they handed him pre-prepared documents for the military medical commission, which were not his. They demanded signatures. Yuriy didn’t sign anything, as all these documents were fictitious. Yuriy was not wanted. His data were up-to-date. So, he didn’t do anything to warrant such actions against him,” Anna Dimchenko wrote.
After her Facebook post and public attention, the man was returned from the Vinnytsia region to Odesa.
The Odesa Regional Territorial Recruitment Center stated that the man’s military registration documents “showed signs of forgery.” It was further established that he was subject to mobilization and did not have any deferments. Therefore, the man was sent to a training center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The recruitment center did not comment on whether Yuriy Dimchenko’s military ID was indeed forged.
