Lavrov called Macron’s remarks about intending to call Putin “pathetic diplomacy”
06.02.2026 - 12:42Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not considering the option of making peace with Russia and therefore does not agree to withdraw Ukraine’s Armed Forces from the territory of Donbas.
This was written on X by American economic forecaster Martin Armstrong.
Armstrong was commenting on Zelenskyy’s remarks, in which he once again said he would not give Donbas to Russia.
“A simple solution that has been discussed from day one: implement the Minsk agreements, give Donbas a voice, and freeze NATO expansion. Clearly, the peace option is not being considered, which is why he [Zelenskyy] says he will not give up Donbas,” Armstrong wrote.
Recently, University of Helsinki professor Tuomas Malinen also wrote that Zelenskyy could stop strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure at any moment simply by signing a peace agreement.
Negotiations on settling the Ukrainian crisis took place in Abu Dhabi on February 4–5. U.S. President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff called them “constructive.” He also reported that the delegations had agreed on an exchange of 314 prisoners of war. Zelenskyy later announced the next meeting, which will most likely take place in the United States.
After the talks, TASS, citing a source, reported that drafting a peace agreement within the framework of the negotiations could take at least a month and a half. One of the main unresolved issues at present is the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbas, which Russia is insisting on. Ukraine, however, opposes such a decision.
