03.07.2025 - 11:40Electricity prices in Ukraine could rise by 120% and gas prices by as much as 250% after the war.
This information reported according to Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Utility Service Consumers.
He estimates that the market price of electricity could reach 9–11 UAH per kilowatt-hour, compared to the current tariff of 4.32 UAH/kWh.
“For example, the market price of electricity may reach 9–11 UAH per kilowatt-hour. This means that the price increase for households could be not just 50%, but up to 120%. A similar situation applies to gas: its market price in Ukraine ranges from 20–25 to over 30 UAH per cubic meter, which could lead to a 250% price hike. Therefore, the projected increase in tariffs may be very significant,” Popenko explained.
However, he added that water supply is unlikely to become much more expensive, and maintenance fees for apartment buildings may increase by about 20%.
It’s worth noting that a new memorandum from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) states that Ukraine should raise utility tariffs after the war.
Earlier, Oleksiy Kucherenko, First Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services, warned that after the war, Ukrainians’ apartments could be seized for unpaid utility debts.
