Lavrov said the U.S. has become the only country taking Russia’s interests on Ukraine into account

The American plan for settling the Russian-Ukrainian conflict takes into account the elimination of the root causes of the conflict.

This was stated by Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“As I have already said, we assessed that under [Donald] Trump the United States became the only country that not only expressed understanding of the need to take into account the interests of the Russian side, but also proposed solutions that took into account the root causes of the current crisis,” he said at a press conference summing up the work of Russian diplomacy last year.

On December 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the first time spoke about all 20 points of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which is currently being discussed by Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington. The document, in particular, contains provisions on territorial concessions, control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, the size of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and holding presidential elections in Ukraine.
