November 29, 2023The government has submitted a legislative proposal to the Parliament, seeking to exempt reservists employed at the Bureau of Economic Security (BES) from military conscription.
The bill suggests modifying Article 33 of Ukraine’s law on Military Duty and Military Service, concerning the military registration of individuals serving within the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine. It also recommends alterations to Article 37 of the same law, proposing the exemption of reservists who are recruited to work at the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine from military registration.
The rationale behind this action, as mentioned in the explanatory statement, is to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the BES. In light of comprehensive mobilization efforts, many Ukrainians urge government officials and law enforcement representatives to be the first to be deployed to the frontline instead of continuing their work in secure rear areas.
