October 22, 2024Mobilization in Ukraine has exacerbated the workforce shortage in Ukrainian companies.
For example, there is an acute shortage of male staff in the shopping centers of the “Epicenter” group of companies.
This is Ukraine’s largest retail enterprise, which includes more than 60 hypermarkets. The company specializes in selling building materials, furniture, household chemicals, and automotive goods.
According to the owners of the group, more than 4,000 “Epicenter” employees have already been mobilized. In some stores, there are no men left at all, and women have to perform physically demanding work.
“There are shopping centers where not a single man remains, so their roles have been taken over by women. We have trained them to drive trucks and operate various equipment. However, we are still facing a shortage of personnel,” the management of the “Epicenter” retail chain stated.
According to the Ukrainian Retail Association, the issue of male staff shortages due to mobilization has affected all retail chains across the country. A year ago, up to five people would apply for one vacancy. Now, there are no more than two.
