25.07.2024 - 10:54Over 40% of Ukrainians can only afford food – or struggle to afford food.
These are the findings of a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center.
Specifically, the following results were reported:
- 32.2% of respondents stated that their money is only enough for food, and buying clothes is already difficult.
- 9.1% said they do not have enough money even for food.
- 48.2% stated that they have enough money for food and clothing, but for more expensive purchases (such as household appliances), they need to save up.
- 7.4% of Ukrainians claim that they have enough for everything, and only very expensive purchases (such as a car) require saving.
- 1.2% said that “our family can afford anything we want.”
Additionally, the survey results show that the income of the majority (65.8%) of Ukrainian families does not exceed 18,000 hryvnias (€403).
- 29.5% of families earn up to 8,000 hryvnias (€179) per month.
- 36.3% earn between 8,000 and 18,000 hryvnias.
- 16% earn between 18,000 and 30,000 hryvnias.
- Only 5.4% of Ukrainian families earn more than 30,000 hryvnias (€671).
Earlier statistics published online indicated that Ukrainians have started buying less food. For example, in the first quarter of 2024, the average amount spent on purchases in retail chains was 327 hryvnias. Last year, this figure was 344 hryvnias.
Prior to this, the World Bank reported that almost a third of Ukrainians live in poverty.
