The statement came in response to an attack by a Ukrainian citizen on people at a monastery in Jarosław, which occurred on September 24.
Nawrocki described the incident as a shock to Polish society and demanded a resolute response from the state.
“In the face of such actions, the state must be strong, act swiftly and mercilessly, ensuring that the law is upheld. The principles and values of our community must be respected by everyone present in our country,” said Karol Nawrocki.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that the attacker would be punished to the full extent of the law.
“The killer from Jarosław is in the hands of the Polish police. The investigation is ongoing,” Donald Tusk wrote.
The attack took place on the morning of September 24 on the grounds of a Benedictine monastery in the Polish city of Jarosław. The attacker assaulted people with a knife, wounding five: four men and one woman. Three of the victims are priests. It was later reported that one of the clergymen died in hospital.
The attacker was arrested. He turned out to be a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen. According to prosecutors, he had entered Poland from Germany. The motives for the crime are being investigated.
