“The greatest salesman in history”: Trump and his son criticized Zelensky during his visit to the USA
September 24, 2024The 72nd Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) defending Vuhledar is at risk of being cut off.
The brigade, consisting of 2,000 soldiers, is “undoubtedly exhausted” after 20 months of fighting at the Vuhledar salient.
Currently, “the Russian 40th Marine Brigade and other brigades and regiments are trying to encircle and cut them off. And they are slowly making progress.”
The publication notes that there are no reinforcements for the Ukrainian forces defending Vuhledar, as “the AFU is simultaneously attacking in the Kursk region and defending in the east and south. They are stretched to the limit.”
Forbes gives the example of the most well-equipped brigade – the 47th, which was supplied with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.
“After 15 months of fighting, the brigade was exhausted and finally withdrew from the front line this month, despite a shortage of well-equipped brigades to replace it,” the publication states.
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian soldier with the call sign “Alex” reports that Russian troops have entered the eastern outskirts of Vuhledar and has published a map showing this area.
“There wasn’t a powerful assault as such; small enemy assault groups managed to penetrate the city, so one can conclude that at the moment, it’s a gray zone,” the officer writes.
According to him, while the Russians haven’t established themselves there yet, the situation on the flanks around the city remains difficult.
