October 20, 2023Norway will pay 1,500 euros to Ukrainians who want to return home.
This information was reported on the government’s website.
The payment is available to Ukrainian citizens who have a valid residence permit in Norway or refugee status. To receive it, one must submit a notice of departure from Norway.
However, in the event of departure and receiving the payment, the person may lose their refugee status. If they return to Norway, they will be required to repay all or part of the financial support received. The amount will depend on the duration of the person’s stay in their home country.
Switzerland had previously introduced a similar provision.
They are willing to pay Ukrainian refugees up to 4,400 dollars for returning home. The Swiss government concluded that it would be more cost-effective to encourage refugees to voluntarily leave the country rather than continue providing them with benefits and prolonging their stay after the expiration of temporary protection periods.
