People close to the deceased former head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Gennadiy Laguta, do not believe in the suicide theory

On Wednesday, September 20th, in the Kyiv region, a farewell ceremony was held for the former governor of the Kherson region, Gennadiy Laguta. He was buried in the Beloye Cemetery. Laguta is survived by his wife and two children.

A colleague of the former governor named Larisa stated that those around him do not believe in the suicide theory.

“We have been working together since 2004, and I know him well. He has always been active and optimistic. Everyone I’ve spoken to doesn’t believe in his suicide. Perhaps he was being blackmailed with something – his children, his family. I told him a long time ago that everyone would want to bring him down, and he replied, ‘You know I haven’t done anything wrong, I just followed the instructions given to me.’ So, something might have forced him to commit suicide”, she said.

Other acquaintances and colleagues of the former head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration also mentioned that Laguta did not display any signs of depression.

“He always wanted to be successful. He was bright and cheerful. He never met or parted with anyone without a smile. He was like a big child in the best sense,” said another colleague of Laguta.

Laguta’s assistant, Anastasia Tsarkova, also stated that Laguta “loved life,” and she did not want to believe in the suicide theory.

“I worked with him for over five years. He was not just a leader but also a friend. I really wouldn’t want to believe in the suicide version because he was a very optimistic person who loved life. He always taught to treat everyone kindly and with respect until they prove otherwise”, she told.

To recap, Gennadiy Laguta, the former head of the Kherson region, passed away during the night of September 17th at the age of 49. He had led the Kherson region until July 2022. The police have initiated a criminal investigation into the circumstances of his death.
