Poland has no intention of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine – Head of the National Security Bureau

Poland has no intention of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, partly to avoid playing into the Russian narrative alleging that Warsaw seeks to occupy western Ukraine.

This statement was made by Jacek Siewiera, head of Poland’s National Security Bureau (BBN), during a broadcast on Polskie Radio.

“This involves both historical issues and the narrative and cognitive warfare conducted by the Russian Federation, claiming that Poland is ready and interested in occupying western Ukraine. This narrative has existed for many years and has been intensified since the start of the invasion. It would be quickly utilized if the military became involved,” Siewiera said.

However, he noted that the overall idea of deploying European peacekeepers is feasible.

“There is a need for additional work to develop a more unified position among European countries. This approach is also influenced by the change in the U.S. administration and shifting perceptions of how the conflict could be resolved. If any form of international forces’ presence in Ukraine is considered, it must have an appropriate international mandate, and it must be clearly stated that this is a limited form of participation involving only Western allies,” the BBN chief added.
