04.01.2024 - 09:47On Thursday, January 4th, Polish farmers, as they had threatened, resumed the blockade of the Medyka-Shehyni border checkpoint with Ukraine.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this.
They pledge to allow three trucks per hour to pass.
Their protest is set to continue until February 3rd or until their demands are met. This is specifically, the Polish government signing guarantees to introduce subsidies for purchasing corn and maintaining agricultural taxes. The farmers promise not to reinstate the blockade if they receive written assurances that their demands will be fulfilled.
The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service confirmed that Polish farmers had blocked the movement of trucks through the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint.
Around 800 trucks are expected to enter Ukraine from Poland.
It’s worth noting that Polish farmers had blocked the checkpoint on the border with Ukraine since November 23rd, refusing cargo passage. On December 24th, the farmers lifted the blockade after receiving assurances from agricultural ministries that their demands would be met.
