Polish opposition speaks out against transferring Patriot missiles to Ukraine

Former Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak of the Law and Justice party has called the possible transfer of Patriot air defense interceptor missiles to Ukraine “completely unacceptable,” a move the Polish government is currently considering.

Błaszczak published his statement on the social network X after Poland’s deputy defense minister announced that a decision on the missile transfer could be made within the coming days.

“The deputy defense minister just stated that a decision could be made in the coming days to transfer Patriot missiles to Ukraine. This is completely unacceptable. These missiles were purchased to protect Polish airspace, Polish cities, and Polish families. Not for Donald Tusk’s government to hand them out, putting our security at risk,” — Błaszczak wrote.

The opposition’s position on military supplies to Ukraine had previously been outlined by Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak of the far-right Confederation party. He proposed legislatively banning arms exports without parliamentary approval, accusing the government of secretly supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Against this backdrop, media reports indicate that an exchange of Polish MiG-29 fighter jets for Ukrainian drone technology is close to being finalized, but may fall through.
