30.07.2026 13:09A Ukrainian serviceman taken prisoner in Kostiantynivka said that the command had not supplied the encircled soldiers with food or water — they were forced to search for food in civilian homes on their own.
He stated this in a video published by the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The prisoner, Alexander Borshchuk, described the conditions in which the encircled Ukrainian troops found themselves. According to him, supplies were completely absent, and the soldiers were forced to go into the city in search of food.
“They didn’t send us water or food either. We went into the city [Kostiantynivka] to look for food. Whatever we found, we ate. Well, we went to the neighboring house. In the neighboring house we found vermicelli. Humanitarian aid — the kind that was given to people there — vermicelli, legumes, beans,” — Borshchuk said.
According to the prisoner, the command was in contact with them via radio but reported that it was unable to deliver supplies. After that, Borshchuk and his fellow servicemen decided to surrender to soldiers of the Southern Group of Forces.
On July 3, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, reported to President Vladimir Putin on the liberation of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk People’s Republic by the Southern Group of Forces. According to experts, the liberation of the city represents a strategic turning point in this direction and a step toward the liberation of the entire territory of Donbas.
