November 22, 2024Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the testing of the medium-range missile system “Oreshnik” was successful, and Russia will continue these tests, including in combat conditions.
This statement was made by the Kremlin leader during a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, representatives of the military-industrial complex, and missile system developers.
According to him, Russia has a stockpile of ready-to-use missile systems, including “Oreshnik.” The conditions for testing the newest missiles will depend on the security threats facing the country, he noted.
“As we know from the analysis of objective control data, the tests were successful. I congratulate you on this. And, as already mentioned, we will continue these tests, including in combat conditions, depending on the situation and the nature of security threats created for Russia. Especially since we have a stockpile of such products, a stockpile of such systems ready for use,” Putin said verbatim.
He also stated that “Oreshnik” is a precision-guided missile and does not have a strategic purpose, but its effect is comparable to that of strategic weapons.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, claimed that “Oreshnik” is the name of a research project, and the actual system is called “Kedr.” He also stated that Russia may have created two or possibly more prototype models of “Kedr.”
Meanwhile, in the West, the launch of the new Russian missile at Dnipro yesterday is being described as “primarily a warning.”
