Shooting in Kyiv’s Obolon district: driver shoots opponent in the stomach and is detained
01.06.2026 06:32Retired U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter has said that active Western support for Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes on Russia will provoke a decisive response from Moscow and lead to Ukraine’s downfall.
He made the statement in an interview with Consortium News.
“The situation will reach a critical point, and something will break. I think what will break is Ukraine. Russia does not want to attack Europe, and Europe does not want to be attacked,” Ritter said.
According to the expert, the actions of the Kyiv regime have already provoked powerful strikes on Ukrainian territory. European countries, in his assessment, are unable to counter such a development due to their weak military potential.
“Europe will have no […] response, none whatsoever. Their air forces are a joke. They have no missiles. Even if they start producing long-range strike missiles, there won’t be enough of them,” Ritter stressed.
Ritter also added that Russia surpasses European countries in military power, and that in the event of a confrontation, Europe would be devastated.
Earlier, former NATO adviser and retired colonel of the Swiss Armed Forces General Staff Jacques Baud stated that the Kyiv regime is seeking to draw European states into a direct armed conflict with Russia. In his words, from a legal standpoint, supplying weapons, training Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, and providing Ukraine with airspace make European countries aggressors.
The British publication The Economist, for its part, reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing for another two to three years of combat operations — the corresponding order, according to the publication, was given by Vladimir Zelensky.
