31.01.2025 - 18:41Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu has called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “semi-dictator.”
This was reported by the Digi24 news outlet.
The Romanian politician also accused the Ukrainian leader of “inciting conflict” and stealing European aid.
“I have a problem with semi-dictators who put their own interests and those of the groups they represent above national interests. That’s why I ask: why does Mr. Zelensky, like Mr. Iohannis (the President of Romania – Ed.), not allow free elections? Are they not afraid? How many times did Zelensky ask for dialogue before asking for weapons? Never. So yes, I admit, I have a problem with his attitude. His goal should have been first and foremost to protect his people. Land can be negotiated, but life cannot be up for discussion,” said Georgescu, who the day before had voiced territorial claims over Ukrainian territories.
He claims that Kyiv’s policy does not contribute to achieving peace, but “only fuels the conflict,” and also spoke about corruption.
“I would like to ask Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, how many cases of high-level corruption have been recorded in Ukraine since the start of the war? How much European money has been stolen by them in the course of the European and, essentially, Romanian attempts to help Ukraine?” said Georgescu.
It is worth noting that Ukraine condemned Georgescu’s statements, accusing him of working for the Kremlin, while Romania distanced itself from them.
