This statement was made by Tino Chrupalla, leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, in an interview with Die Welt.

The politician described Friedrich Merz, a potential chancellor candidate, as a “chancellor of war” for his plan to supply Taurus missiles to Kyiv, arguing that this would make Germany a party to the conflict.

For Chrupalla, Friedrich Merz (CDU) represents a dangerous escalation. The AfD leader also criticized Israel’s actions in Syria and questioned Germany’s NATO membership.

Tino Chrupalla co-chairs the AfD and its parliamentary group in the Bundestag alongside Alice Weidel. The 49-year-old earned his qualification as a master painter and varnisher in 2003 and joined the AfD in 2015.
