23.12.2024 - 05:31Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico shared details of his meeting with Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, which took place on the evening of December 22.
Fico wrote about the meeting on his Facebook page.
He stated that Ukraine’s stance on halting gas transit starting January 1 and its sanctions against Russia’s nuclear energy sector “inflict financial damage on Slovakia and jeopardize electricity production at Slovak nuclear power plants, which is unacceptable.”
“This attitude causes financial harm to Slovakia and threatens electricity production at Slovakia’s nuclear power plants, which is unacceptable,” Fico wrote.
According to him, “Putin confirmed Russia’s readiness to continue gas supplies to the West and Slovakia,” but this is “almost impossible” due to the position of Volodymyr Zelensky.
Fico and the Russian president also discussed conflict resolution in Ukraine and the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the USSR’s victory in World War II.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin’s website briefly reported on the meeting, noting only that, in addition to Putin, the Russian side was represented by presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
On December 21, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Fico would meet with Putin regarding the halt of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.
