November 3, 2024Deputy Commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Maksym Zhorin, criticized the practice of forming new brigades while existing ones suffer from significant understaffing.
He shared his statement on his Telegram channel, explaining that “it’s difficult to find brigades on the front lines that are even 40% staffed, yet new units are constantly being created. These new units have inexperienced personnel, lack officers, and require equipment and supplies from scratch.”
“Instead of integrating new soldiers into existing combat brigades, some are being ‘pushed’ into newly created units. As a result, these units are unable to effectively fulfill combat missions. They are then reassigned under other brigades, which only creates additional challenges since managing them is complicated. I don’t understand the reasoning behind this. I have a suspicion—it might be financially beneficial for some, which is why this approach is being promoted. Meanwhile, the plan to create divisions and elevate experienced brigade commanders to this level has yet to be implemented,” Zhorin wrote.
Previously, Azov members had criticized the allocation of Western weapons to new brigades under the command of existing leaders.
