15.08.2024 - 10:47The German authorities intend to tighten the rules for the stay of Ukrainian refugees in the country.
This is reported by the media.
The ruling coalition, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party of Germany, is discussing the issue of tightening the requirements for recipients of unemployment benefits. Grounds for this could include refusal of employment and illegal work.
It is expected that the adoption of such measures will affect about 100,000 Ukrainian migrants and will reduce the burden on the state budget.
In addition, Berlin intends to push for “solidarity” distribution of Ukrainians across the entire European Union and to support the decision to end their free movement between European countries, including through the reactivation of Article 11 of the “EU Directive on Mass Influx,” which was suspended in 2022 due to the start of the war in Ukraine.
As a reminder, according to the European Union’s statistical service, as of the end of May 2024, 1,332,515 Ukrainian refugees were registered in Germany.
