23.10.2024 10:42The BRICS summit that began in Kazan, Russia, highlights the limitations of Western efforts to isolate Vladimir Putin after the invasion of Ukraine.
This information reported according to Bloomberg.
The publication describes the summit as “the largest gathering of world leaders in Russia since Putin ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.” The visit of leaders from 32 countries, along with the UN Secretary-General, underscores the challenge to Western attempts to isolate Putin because of the war. The summit seeks to portray Putin as a figure standing against the West, aiming to reshape the global order, the agency writes.
The article notes that leaders from India and China have “welcomed their ties with Russia,” with Chinese President Xi Jinping telling Putin that the “deep friendship” between their countries will remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during talks with Putin at the summit, emphasized that the war in Ukraine should be resolved peacefully.
“Regarding the ongoing war… We are in regular contact. As I have said before, we believe that problems should be solved through peaceful means, and we fully support the swift establishment of peace and stability. In all our efforts, we prioritize humanity, and we are ready to offer any possible assistance in the future,” Modi said.
Earlier reports indicated that Putin and Xi Jinping met during the BRICS summit.
The participants at this event are also expected to adopt a statement regarding Ukraine.
