“Commanders should have thought about Vuhledar earlier”: a Ukrainian soldier criticized the command for the late withdrawal of troops
02.10.2024 - 09:46The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has submitted a draft law to the Verkhovna Rada that aims to require conscripts aged 17 to register either through the “Reserve+” system or by physically appearing at territorial recruitment centers.
Those who fail to comply with this requirement will face a fine ranging from 17,000 to 25,500 hryvnias (€372-558).
According to the draft text, from January 1 to July 31, citizens who turn 17 in the year of registration must complete electronic identification of their personal data through the Electronic Recruit’s Cabinet or appear in person at a territorial recruitment center with a list of documents specified by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
Acceptable reasons for not complying include illness, natural disasters, residence in temporarily occupied territories or areas of active combat, as well as unspecified “other circumstances.”
The draft also includes provisions for women who are fit for military service by age and health. If they voluntarily express a desire to undergo basic military training, they will be registered as conscripts. After completing their basic military service, they will be listed as reservists.
Additionally, a government resolution stipulates that boys aged 16 will be added to the conscription registry when applying for a passport, without the need for a military medical commission.
