September 19, 2024The Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and Slovakia – Andriy Sybiha and Juraj Blanár – following negotiations in Bratislava, advocated for Moscow’s participation in future talks on resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
This was reported by the Slovak publication Pravda.
According to Blanár, the current conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and his country’s government wants to reach a peaceful settlement as soon as possible.
Blanár said that the government of Fico, which, after coming to power last year, stopped military supplies from state reserves to Kyiv, defending itself from Russian armed aggression since February 2022, plans to continue providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as a country under attack. Blanár also supported Kyiv’s aspiration for membership in the Union but expressed a negative view on Ukraine’s accession to NATO, stating that it would create the risk of new conflicts.
“Membership in NATO will create more conflicts, but we respect Ukraine’s right to go wherever it wants to go,” Blanár stated after the diplomatic meeting with Andriy Sybiha, where Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was also present.
Following the meeting, the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine will prepare for another joint session in October.
