17.05.2024 15:55Approximately 5,000 convicted individuals in Ukraine have preliminarily agreed to go to the front lines in exchange for conditional early release.
This was reported by Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Olena Vysotska.
She stated that the ministry conducted a survey among the prisoners back in April, before the law was passed. However, not all of them will be able to go to the front, even if they still hold the same opinion.
“4,500 convicts answered ‘Yes.’ It should be understood that the administrations of the correctional facilities did not survey prisoners by articles of the Criminal Code, some of which currently do not fall under mobilization. Their health status was also not considered. And, I repeat, the most important criterion is motivation,” Vysotska said.
Previously, the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Denys Maliuska, stated that Ukraine could mobilize a maximum of 20,000 convicts under the new law.
