March 14, 2024The United States has approved the allocation of $300 million in weapons to Ukraine, but this will only be sufficient for Kyiv for a few weeks.
This is reported by The New York Times.
“These munitions will allow Ukrainian weapons to fire for some time, but not for long. This is far from enough to meet Ukraine’s needs on the battlefield, and it will not prevent Ukraine from running out of ammunition,” said U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
Among the weapons to be provided to Kiev under this new package are Stinger missiles, artillery shells and anti-tank weapons.
As the article’s author notes, $300 million is a pittance compared to previous multi-billion-dollar packages of American aid.
“These are amounts that are spent in a matter of weeks,” said Sergey Kuzan, Chairman of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, adding that the impact of the new package will be “minimal.”
European countries are also working on providing Ukraine with their aid packages — in volume even greater than the latest American one. However, Europe is unlikely to replace the United States in this matter — at least because it is difficult for Europe itself to increase weapon production.
