18.10.2024 - 10:19During the full-scale war with Russia, nearly 90,000 cases of unauthorized abandonment of military units and desertion have been opened.
This information was provided by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
More than half of these cases were initiated in the incomplete year of 2024, totaling 59,606. Of these, only 4,698 cases have reached the courts, while 2,592 have been closed. The region with the highest number of cases is Donetsk (8,574), where the heaviest fighting is ongoing.
Specifically regarding desertion, since 2022, 29,521 cases have been opened. Of these, 442 cases have been sent to court, and almost the same number, 414, have been closed.
Earlier, military figure Volodymyr Boyko stated that the actual number of deserters is estimated at 170,000, although not all cases are formally registered.
