‘The main challenge for the Ukrainian Armed Forces lies in the lack of artillery and air defense assets’, – Charles Brown, head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said
29.03.2024 09:31Ukraine has access to maritime routes and markets it previously operated in, so the action of preferences for its exports to the EU is ending.
This was stated by the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski, for RMF FM.
The temporary access to the EU single market was a gesture of solidarity. The situation has changed.
“The blockade of Ukrainian exports by Russia through the Black Sea led the European Union to open its market to Kiev. However, now that Ukraine has access to maritime routes and markets it operated in before the war, the action of preferences for Kiev is ending,” said the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to journalists in Riga, where he was on a one-day visit on March 27.
When asked by journalists what he expects from Polish-Ukrainian intergovernmental consultations, the head of the foreign policy department replied that “Poland strategically supports Ukraine in its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations and in its efforts to combat Russian imperialism, but this does not mean the absence of problems in bilateral relations.” Sikorski noted that it is completely normal in the relationship between neighbors, “who have had many different things throughout history.”
“As we all know, there are certain issues in agriculture and automotive transport, and we are trying to resolve them so that Poles know that Polish interests are protected, but so that Ukraine can continue its struggle,” said the Polish Foreign Minister. He also emphasized that “military and humanitarian aid flows to Ukraine unhindered.”
Sikorski explained that “under the previous government, Ukraine received a gesture of solidarity from the entire European Union in the form of temporary access to the EU single market when Putin blocked Ukrainian exports through the Black Sea.”
“Thank God, Ukraine won the battle for the western part of the Black Sea, and today ships with grain are going from Odessa through the Bosporus to traditional Ukrainian markets in Africa and China, so the validity period of this temporary privilege is gradually expiring,” the minister noted.
Polish-Ukrainian intergovernmental consultations under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Prime Minister Denis Shmygal are taking place in Warsaw on March 28.
